Okay, this is the review of yesterday's test.
-I took home the three marking sheets, so the results are with me.
(Disclaimer: Not Overstepping =) )
There are prominent areas where you can improve, as agreed by the 3 of us.
Metronome work, however we are not particularly strict and we observe the problems before we assess you. No favourtism, any form were dispelled by the other testers. So if you are a disciple of anyone or had a cough, sore throat, we did a holistic marking, with consideration of certain issues.
*All comments are given by the 3 listeners. It is a compilation, not a one-sided view)
Listing the components out:
(Legend: Category Name (Average Mark)
*If you all fall short of the average mark, please work really hard for this.
10 Marks Categories
Tonguing + Dynamics (6)
A few of you are extremely weak at this area. Tonguing practices such tonguing the same note over and over again at different speed will help at this stage, try not to accelerate. Which links to the following part, Rhythm.
Rhythm (6)
The rhythm portion is quite okay for some people but certain people need alot of work, especially with the entry of 3 quavers. Listen to metronome and work with it.
However, there is also a problematic trend, it seems that if you are unable to play that specific part, you tend to slow it to Beat=30. Which was really a chore for the listeners.
Extract: Golden Jubilee bar 24 to 32 (6)
Still hovering around passing and failing. It is the most prominent part for clarinets except bars 80 to 90, which are also prominent. Still, the main problem here was the entry with 3 quavers. The running notes will be described in greater detail later on.

Tonality (9)
Overall, we can conclude that low notes are the nicest from you all. They sound the most full and complete comparted to the other high notes. Commendable effort by Zhe Wei, his tone had improved quite significantly, especially when he wasn't someone who usually plays the higher register.
Fluency *Running Notes & Overall Piece* (8)
It feels choppy and odd when we listened to the majority of the people. The running notes are not smooth and some are played at Beat=30 which was quite disappointing? Yeah, so work harder.
BONUS: Sight Reading ( X/10 )
Sight-reading is a vital skill that will help us along the way. Therefore, it was included as a surpise. Again, surprisingly, did relatively well except outliers, the average mark was 7.
Total Mark: X/70
(Mark Gotten/70 ) X 100 = Your Mark %
52.5 (75%)A1
49 (70%)A2
Passing Mark: 35
BEST OF LUCK. SECOND TEST- DETERMINING ONE IN 3rd/4th Week.
(Joel agreed. =) ) So Work Hard! =)
Something to lighten your mood, sooth deine nerves.

Okay, again.
Hello everyone! :)
Joel has probably already said this in the previous post, but since I'm like, freaking bored now, and I feel like posting something, lol, I shallregurgitate, I mean, reiterate (haha, jinsheng, lol :D) what he had already mentioned.
As informed, there will be no sectionals tomorrow.
... Which isn't exactly a good thing, since there is a "test" for all Secondary 2s on Monday during sectionals. Like Joel said, this would mean that you guys would have to practice even harder by yourselves, without the help from the seniors. So we really hope you guys have already brought your clarinets home to practice.
The "test", wouldn't be difficult if you had been practicing diligently. The Section Leader - Joel, and the 3 other Sec 3s will conduct the test during sectionals on Monday, to see if you are able to play the pieces well. Apart from that, we would also like to sieve out the weaker players, in order to help them for the upcoming concert @ the Esplanade.
Haha, have a great weekend!
- And jiayou :)

Sectionals
Hi CHSSB clarinetists.
A piece of bad news (or good news for some people) :
TOMORROW'S SECTIONALS IS CANCELLED!!!
Reasons:
1. We BELIEVE that you all are quite exhausted after numerous days of practicing.
2. A number of sec 3s are unable to attend tomorrow's sectionals, which means that no one will be able to supervise you all.
3. Hmm..... Sec 4s will not be able to join us??? This is not that important.. although it does, to the sec 4s... Haha...
Alright, that's about it. Tomorrow's sectionals cancelled and that means you all will have to.... no... you all MUST practice for the test on MONDAY(By yourselves, of course, since there will not be sectionals) !! THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT...(SCROLL DOWN)
...
BECAUSE WE WILL BE THE ONES WHO WILL DECIDE YOUR FATE TO PERFORM GOLDEN JUBILEE IN THE UPCOMING CONCERT. HENCE, BE WELL PREPARED FOR THE TEST AND FINALLY, GOOD LUCK!
Regards,
Joel Chien
